Week 1.2 - 13/09/18 - REFINING A TOPIC

This class we sat down with our posters and Maddie and I determined which theme we thought would be easiest to advance with. We determined that the neighbours day beach bash would be the easiest as it had a lot more imagery than the town hall poetry slam. We then looked further at my posters and determined our gut reaction on what we though was working well and what wasn't, but ultimately found that we weren't set on the style of my initial posters, so decided that we wanted to look more into mood boards and a strong rhetorical device that we could use.

We started by brainstorming a variety of things we associated with beach parties, neighbours day and Lyall bay and this allowed us to decide that the use of pastiche could be quite a good choice for our rhetorical device. We felt everyone around us was doing juxtaposition and we wanted to try something different. As our beach party is to be set at Lyall Bay, we also thought that we could reference the 1950s design era as this is a big focus particularly with the likes of Marinui Surf Club.

We set ourselves the task of over the weekend developing a series of mood boards which we could expand our ideas from.
